Circa

Circa is an attempt at something much more ambitious. I wanted to know what a place familiar to me could develop into going forward a few hundred years or so. This image is the result of that inquiry. What is depicted is a traditional (old) walled town like York, Canterbury, Chester or Exeter but pushed forward through the 21st century into the 22nd. What we see is a town once again dependent upon its wall for its survival. Surrounded by agricultural reclamation where once suburbia was. It shows the future of cities and towns as being a series of contractions and adaptations spanning generations. This place is an image of survival but it is not a utopia, nor is it sustainable, what’s shown is an arbitrary point on its trajectory; the attitude of that trajectory is unclear.
